The Thomas Jefferson Discussion Group of Orlando, Florida
Meeting No. 39 - July 20, 2004
Holiday House Restaurant, Orlando, Florida
THIS MONTH'S TOPIC:
AN INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH THOMAS JEFFERSON
I trust you all had a wonderful Independence Day. For me, it will be one I will fondly look back on for the rest of my life.
Leo Buscaglia used to say that an individual’s life is like a scrapbook, each day providing a page that is filled with “photographic” memories, rather physical photographs. We can’t control the exact number of pages in our book, only influence what the pages hold. In my book, July 4, 2004 is marked with a large paper clip that will make it easy for me to recall.
By invitation of the University Unitarian Universalist Society, I had the privilege of introducing Mr. J.D. Sutton who gave a meaningful and emotional talk about the Declaration of Independence. His in-costume portrayal of Thomas Jefferson was wonderfully complemented by excellent questions from the congregation that Mr. Sutton answered in-character as Mr. Jefferson.
We video taped the event and for our July meeting we will show and discuss the performance. We’ll title the meeting: “An Independence Day with Thomas Jefferson.” The meeting will be held at the Holiday House Restaurant on Lee Road near Rt. 441 on Tuesday, July 20 at about 6:30 PM. Hope to see you there.
