The Thomas Jefferson Discussion Group
of Orlando, Florida

Meeting No. 26 - June 17, 2003
Chapters Bookstore, Orlando, Florida

THIS MONTH'S TOPIC:
PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLANS

In the early 19th century Thomas Jefferson was the leader of a political party that was committed to limited government. If Mr. Jefferson were President of the United States in the early 21st century, would he propose, support and sign into law a prescription drug plan?

  • if so, on what constitutional basis?
  • if not, why not, since it clearly improves "the general welfare?"
