The Thomas Jefferson Discussion Group of Orlando, Florida
Meeting No. 19 - November 12, 2002
Chapters Bookstore, Orlando, Florida
THIS MONTH'S TOPIC:
WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR A GOOD REVOLUTION THESE DAYS?
Most of us would like to see the oppressed people in our world break their chains of bondage. Jefferson believed that freedom was a prerequisite to an individual's right to pursue happiness - an "unalienable" right (a right that that requires no proof for validity - it is self-evident).
In today's world, what are the elements that help insure a people will be successful in throwing off the yoke of tyranny? Perhaps, a clue can be found in comparing the American Revolution (a success) to the French Revolution (a failure).
What role should the free world play (if any) in assisting an oppressed people achieve liberty (another "unalienable" right)?
