The Thomas Jefferson Discussion Group of Orlando, Florida
Meeting No. 9 - January 15, 2002
Chapters Bookstore, Orlando, Florida
THIS MONTH'S TOPIC: CHALLENGES OF A NEW NATION, PART II
This month, we continue our discussion on the problems involved in forming a new government in Afghanistan compared to America's own problems establishing a government that worked.
- Was there really no "united" government when Congress wasn't in session?
- Why did the Articles of Confederation need to be replaced by the Constitution?
- Did Jefferson really believe that a permanent "executive committee" of the Congress could effectively fill the role of the Executive branch?
- Why does our system work? And why do some other systems not work?
